how can i get dried candle wax out of my great-grandams handmade Dollie? i don’t want to risk damage.?

i would like to be able to hand it down to my daughter, as it’s been to me.

Place a paper towel on top of the area with wax, then hold a blow dryer at a reasonable distance from the doll at a warm temperature to melt the wax. The melted wax will be absorbed by the paper towel and the doll will be intact.

    A dollie is pretty delicate material…be careful. I recommend:

    Materials: brown paper bag & an iron
    Steps:
    1. lay bag over the wax on the dollie (bag should be between the dollie & the iron)
    2. slowly iron over the bag raising the heat until the wax starts to melt
    3. the wax will soak into the paper bag
    4. move the bag after the current area becomes saturated to give the wax another place to soak into
    5. Repeat, repeat, repeat
    6. keep checking the dollie for wax, eventually there should be no wax

    This is not a quick job, it takes some patience. I have used this method on other fabrics & it works beautifully. You might consider testing the method first. Buy a cheap dollie & let some wax dry on it, then see if it works. Good Luck!!!

    This sounds crazy, put the dollie in a quart plastic bag in the freezer for a short time. Usually the wax will freeze and will come off the item easily. I would just put it in plastic bag to protect the dollie.

    I use candles a lot and the best way to remove the wax that drips is to use an ice cube and let it melt on the dollie, as it is melting you can remove the wax by pulling gently. I have done this with crocheted items as well as home made items.
    Just keep doing this until all the wax is removed.
